When it comes to your child’s dental needs, rest assured that we can provide a gentle and relaxing experience for them with our safe sedation options.

If you have a strong gag reflux or sensitive teeth, you may also want to consider sedation options. If you have experienced a low pain threshold in the past, then it may be best for you to consider this choice as well. Dental treatment that may require a lot of work or are extensive may be better experienced under sedation.

How to Prepare for Treatment

If you are seeking this form of dentistry, ensuring your safety and comfort throughout the process will be first and foremost. We will need a full health history including any current medical conditions. You will need to inform us of any medications you are currently taking as well as herbal or alternative supplements, vitamins, and over-the-counter medicine. Knowing this information will let us know if we can safely administer such a practice. It also allows us to know if we need to adjust the amount of sedation based on your condition or medications. There are other precautions, such as avoiding grapefruit juice beforehand, alcohol, and alerting us if you smoke. We will choose the correct form of sedation for you based on your health needs and the dental services you are undergoing.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation options make your experience a dream you don’t remember. This treatment option is very common for most patients because it requires no injections and no IVs. It will calm you enough for your dentist to administer anesthesia as needed which helps to numb additional areas keeping you even more comfortable and making your procedure easier for you.

The medication is administered by either swallowing the pill whole or placing it sublingual (under the tongue) and allowing it to dissolve. The sublingual method helps the medication enter the bloodstream quickly. Either option is fine and safe for administration. We also often suggest that you try the medication the night before to see how it works and to help calm you before your procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is famous for the name “laughing gas”. Dentists have used this method for years to put their patients at ease. This method we offer excels at pain relief but isn’t as effective for anxious patients. It is a common choice for those who fear pain or are sensitive to it. The air is administered through a small cup put on the nasal passage area. You will instantly have a feeling of well-being and may feel light-headed. Everything else should feel normal within your body. The good thing about this option is that the effects wear off quickly so you can resume your daily schedule fairly quickly. In some cases, we can combine both an oral sedative option and nitrous oxide at certain levels to provide you with the most comfortable experience for your particular procedure or treatment.

Before your arrive for your appointment, you will want to follow certain protocol in order to prepare you safely prepare for sedation dentistry:
