THE YOUNGER LOOKING SMILE
Is there anyone out there that doesn’t wish to look forever young? Countless measures are taken to look young including new clothing, new hairstyles, cosmetic surgery, etc. And sure, one can find all sorts of dermatologic beauty aides in helping make their skin appear as youthful as a 20-year-old, but unless the ideal smile to goes with it, they aren’t fooling anyone.
Despite all the gimmicks, studies show your smile is the number one thing you can change that will have the greatest impact on making you look younger.
How can you get and maintain a younger-looking smile? I thought you’d never ask.
The most simple thing you can do is take care of your teeth from the start. Practicing good oral hygiene habits like flossing and brushing twice a day keeps your gums, bone and teeth disease free. These are small and simple things that have a huge impact on one’s smile, especially through the years. Failure to do these small tasks daily lead to cavities, tooth discoloration or tooth loss, and periodontal (gum) disease.
In my last blog article, I wrote on how oral health has a great impact on ones overall health, especially over time. We now know that the same bacteria that is in our mouths makes its way into the blood stream and travels to other parts of our body, contributing to disease wherever it goes. Research shows gum disease can increase our risk for serious health problems, which include:
- Endocarditis and cardiovascular disease
- Alzheimer’s Disease
Just like washing your car daily will not keep wear and tear and discoloration over time from happening to the outside of your car, all the impeccable oral health care in the world won’t keep teeth from becoming yellowed, chipped or needing some attention over time. Teeth are like cars in that if you use them they will need maintenance and “face-lifts” along the way. One quick and easy way to beautify and make your smile look younger is through teeth whitening.
There are many cheap imitations, over-the-counters, and substitutes out there that don’t get you good results, so be aware. The best thing is to have your smile whitened with professional grade products. In our office we have had great success with KoR Whitening, especially if you have brown or grey teeth, which are the most difficult colors to remove.
Other Cosmetic Options
Cosmetic dentistry is another great option to help you feel confident and look young again. Porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns and clear braces are just a few of the many options available in helping you look young again. It is never too early and never too late to have Dr. Del Toro help answer your questions, set your mind at ease, and help you get started in accomplishing your new younger looking smile.
There’s Health in a Smile
The old adage is, ‘you are as young as you feel’, thus the best way to appear more youthful is to smile more. AND, research shows that smiling more actually makes you more happy which in turn makes you more healthy. Now, who doesn’t want to be healthy and feel beautiful and confident all the time?
